In order to get to Monterrico, a very much talked about beach by all the people we met, we took a half an hour

boat ride through mangrove swamps. The ride was absolutely breath taking.

The beautiful ironsand beach, colored black by the nearby erruptions from volcanoes, on the Pacific Coast was not what I was expecting at all. It is said to be Guatemala's best beach and it was the truth without a doubt, but not in the way your common tourist would like. It was completely

undeveloped, not fancy or luxurious and not very touristy. I loved it! Hector and I sort of took a day off, taking our time to see the sights at Monterrico. Around lunch time we sat around for an hour in hammocks eating veggie burgers and having surprsingly inexpensive pina coladas. We then played beach soccer with some backpackers we met from Europe.

We stopped by theanimal sanctuary after being beaten sorely by our european friends. My heart was immediately stolen by every single baby turtle I saw. There must have been thousands. To help with the survival of the baby turtles, travelers are

allowed to help release the turtles in the evening and watch them safely make their journey out to sea.
