egan the hike. The first hour and a half was easy, crossing green and farmlike land. The last forty five minutes were the most difficult ascending the huge volcano. Water vapor and small stones were flying out the top nonstop. The guide told us it errupts lava at least once a year.
We saw some very cool wildlife on the way up. The guide pointed out a tree called el hormigo from which the instrument the marimba is made. Awesome! There was also beautiful orchids and fungi to see. On our way back down we stopped at Laguna de Calderas and went swimming. We even rented a canoe and explored the lake, looking at all of the beautiful scenery, and taking lots of pictures.
